‘I’ is for Impact
When we think about impact, it’s easy to focus on the big things. But at CPRE Gloucestershire, we know that real change often comes from lots of smaller actions that add up over time.
Every year, we work with communities, volunteers and partners across the county to help protect and enhance Gloucestershire’s countryside. That might mean responding to planning consultations, raising awareness of local issues, supporting nature recovery, or encouraging sustainable development in the right places.
One of our newest initiatives is our Brownfield Land Project, which is helping to identify previously developed sites that could be brought back into use. By promoting development on suitable brownfield land, we can help meet local needs while reducing pressure on the green spaces and landscapes that make Gloucestershire so special.
We’re also proud of the legacy of our Hedgerow Heroes Project. Thanks to the efforts of volunteers, landowners and local communities, hundreds of metres of hedgerow were planted and restored, creating valuable habitats for wildlife and strengthening connections across the landscape.
None of this would be possible without the people who support us. Our volunteers give their time, skills and enthusiasm to champion the countryside, whether that’s through practical projects, planning work, campaigning or helping at events.
As part of the wider CPRE network, we’re contributing to a movement that is making a real difference. Over the last year, CPRE helped plant more than 125,000 hedgerow trees, supported over 1,600 volunteers standing up for the countryside, inspired supporters to contact 619 MPs in support of rooftop solar on new homes, and saw its evidence and campaigns mentioned 36 times in Parliament.
As CPRE celebrates its centenary, we’re proud of the impact we’ve had, but we’re even more excited about what comes next. Together, we’re helping to ensure Gloucestershire’s countryside remains a place where nature, landscapes and communities can thrive.
