The Richard Lloyd Countryside Champion Award

Celebrating an outstanding individual in Gloucestershire

ABOUT THE AWARD

The Richard Lloyd Countryside Champion Award celebrates an individual who has made an exceptional contribution to protecting, enhancing and championing Gloucestershire’s countryside.

Established in memory of our much-loved former Vice Chair, Richard Lloyd MBE, the Award recognises those who share Richard’s deep passion for the natural environment and his lifelong commitment to safeguarding Gloucestershire’s countryside for future generations.

The Award honours individuals whose dedication, leadership and enthusiasm have made a lasting difference to the county’s landscapes, wildlife and rural communities. Through their work, volunteering or advocacy, recipients demonstrate a commitment to caring for the countryside, inspiring others to get involved, and bringing people together to protect and improve our natural environment.

Above all, the Richard Lloyd Countryside Champion Award celebrates the collaborative, generous and determined spirit that Richard embodied throughout his life, recognising those who continue his legacy through their outstanding contribution to Gloucestershire’s countryside.

RICHARD LLOYD MBE, A TRUE COUNTRYSIDE CHAMPION

Richard devoted decades of service to CPRE, both in Gloucestershire and nationally. As a Vice Chair of our charity, he played an important role in shaping our work and championing the protection of the countryside.

Alongside this, he built a distinguished career in environmental policy, including roles at the Countryside Commission and on the Cotswolds AONB Board, and was widely respected for his expertise and collaborative approach.

He also founded our Awards scheme, recognising over 100 outstanding projects, making this Award a fitting tribute to his lasting legacy.
