The award celebrates Richard’s remarkable life and legacy — shaped by his profound knowledge of the environment, his tireless energy, and his unwavering belief in the importance of protecting and enhancing the countryside for future generations.

One of Richard’s greatest joys was celebrating the achievements of others. He established and led our CPRE Gloucestershire Awards Scheme for many years, creating a scheme that has recognised and showcased more than 100 outstanding environmental and community projects across the county.

This initiative remained close to his heart throughout his life and continues today — making this new award a particularly fitting tribute.
