A crucial stage for the Climate and Nature Bill: Show your support
CPRE Gloucestershire are proud to be supporting the Climate and Nature Bill as it progresses through Parliament and nears a crucial stage.
Following her success in the recent Private Members’ Bill Ballot, Dr Roz Savage MP (South Cotswolds), has picked the Climate and Nature Bill (CAN) as her Ballot Bill choice and will be taking the bill forward as it progresses through the House of Commons. Watch Roz Savage’s message to our supporters by here.
The Bill would create new UK law that addresses the full extent of the climate and nature crisis in light of current scientific information. This is the only proposed legislation that ensures a comprehensive approach to the double emergency. It aims for the UK to act quicker to keep global heating down to 1.5°C in order to avoid the worst impacts of climate change. By urgently reducing greenhouse gas emissions and building on the Environment Act 2021, we can better help nature ‘recover’ by 2030.
After four years of campaigning, this is a golden opportunity to progress the CAN Bill all the way to becoming a new law — the Climate and Nature Act. Zero Hour are leading on this campaign – find out more here.
The date for the CAN Bill’s second reading is Friday 24th January 2025 and it needs at least 102 MPs to attend its second reading and vote in support to ensure that it progresses to the next (committee) stage. We cannot afford to see the CAN Bill fall — and nor can our families, our communities, or our planet.
We need your help ensuring supportive MPs attend the second reading in January and vote in favour of the CAN Bill. You can use our letter template by clicking the button below.
Will you write to your MP, today, asking them to vote for the CAN Bill in January?
