We’ve seen fantastic progress during the first half of the season for our Hedgerow Heroes project, with volunteers working hard to restore and enhance hedgerows across Gloucestershire.

So far, activity has taken place across six sites around the county, supporting both the planting of new hedgerows and the rejuvenation of existing ones. A total of six planting days and six hedge laying days have been delivered, resulting in just over 900 metres of hedgerow completed in this first half of the season.

Community involvement has been a real highlight of the project. More than 60 volunteers have taken part across 11 sessions, giving their time, energy, and skills to the project. Their enthusiasm, commitment, and willingness to work in all weather conditions have been vital to the project’s early success.

With more activity planned for the remainder of the season, the Hedgerow Heroes project will continue to make a meaningful contribution to biodiversity, climate resilience, and community engagement across Gloucestershire.
