CPRE Gloucestershire Awards

Nominations for next year’s awards are now open

Nominations are welcome from any source – community, private, voluntary sector or partnerships of organisations – but must have the approval of the owner.

Projects should demonstrate sustainability, involve improvements to the environment, whether natural or built, and be visible from public places.

An independent panel of judges will review the projects nominated, based on four broad categories:

1. Well considered buildings – new, restored or converted;
2. Innovative use of natural resources, including land and water;
3. Projects developed by or for the local community.
4. Projects responding to the challenge of climate change

Examples might be:

• a community shop, recreation facility, village hall or heritage project;
• buildings which fit their setting, are good examples of sustainable construction and efficient in the use of energy;
• a new nature reserve or habitat with public access;
• a community orchard, re-establishing old varieties of fruit;
• water management projects such as wetland creation, reedbed sewage treatment, or a sustainable drainage system;
• projects that encourage access to local countryside.

Previous award recipients on what the award means to them:

Bells Field “This award really is the icing on the cake for Coleford Town Council.  The Bells Field recreation scheme transformed a 9 acre field into a true community asset providing much needed leisure facilities and green open space for all ages of our community.  From the day we opened we have recognised the success that our community have placed on the scheme, but being recognised by a body like the CPRE really makes us proud – receiving the award was such a highlight for the team involved from inception to delivery”  Cllr Nick Penny, Mayor of Coleford

Scarr Bandstand Project: “Friends of Scarr Bandstand were thrilled to receive a CPRE award in 2019, in recognition of our work in restoring the bandstand and organising band concerts and other events for the community each summer. As a new organisation, it was very gratifying to receive recognition from CPRE, and a huge boost for our morale.  We are proud of the lovely CPRE plaque, and are delighted to be able to mention the CPRE award on all our publicity and marketing.”

All projects meeting the criteria for judging will receive the CPRE Gloucestershire Award. This comprises an attractive plaque for permanent display and certificates for the key players in each project.

The awards ceremony takes place in the Autumn.
