Hedgerow Heroes Project: 2025-26
Season target: 2km 🎯
We’re delighted to share that the third season of our Hedgerow Heroes Project is now well underway — and on track to meet our goal of creating and restoring 2.05 km of hedgerow across Gloucestershire!
Between October 2025 and March 2026, we’re working closely with farmers, landowners and volunteers to restore and create hedgerows that benefit people, nature and the climate.
This season builds on the success of previous years, helping to connect wildlife habitats, boost biodiversity and tackle climate change by capturing carbon and protecting our landscapes for the future.
Get involved
There are plenty of ways to get involved in this season’s project; from volunteering to plant or lay hedges, to supporting our work through donations, or even offering land for us to restore.
Explore how you can take part below, or get in touch with our Project Manager, Eve, by clicking the button:
Volunteer
Throughout the season, we’ll be running free planting and laying days where you can learn new skills, meet like-minded people, and help us reach our hedgerow restoration target!
These days are open to everyone — no previous experience needed. Come along, get hands-on, and be part of something that makes a real difference to our countryside.
Types of volunteering
🪚 Hedge laying:
Learn a traditional countryside craft that helps keep hedgerows healthy, stock-proof, and bursting with wildlife! Guided by our expert trainer and Project Manager, you’ll discover how to carefully cut and lay stems at an angle, weaving them between stakes to create a dense, living barrier. By the end of the session, you’ll have helped transform overgrown hedges into thriving habitats that support wildlife and strengthen our countryside.
🌱 Hedge planting:
Get hands-on and help create new hedgerows that support wildlife, connect habitats, and enhance Gloucestershire’s countryside. You’ll work as a team to plant native hedgerow species, promoting healthier ecosystems and natural environmental management to help mitigate flooding and soil erosion. Every hedge you help plant will grow into a thriving habitat for birds, insects, and small mammals, making a lasting difference for people, nature, and the environment.
Corporate volunteering
We are delighted to offer corporate volunteering opportunities for organisations who’d like to support the project and make a positive impact on Gloucestershire’s countryside. If your business or team would like to get involved, please email our Project Manager, Eve, to explore how we can work together.
📍Season 3: Project sites

Landowners
As we approach the end of this season, all our sites are now confirmed thanks to the fantastic support of local landowners. If you’re interested in offering land for a future season, we’d love to hear from you. Please get in touch with our Project Manager, Eve.
