First established in 2007, the CPRE Gloucestershire Awards celebrate outstanding projects across Gloucestershire that deliver benefits to both the environment and local communities, setting examples of good practice for others to follow.
Launched to recognise projects that demonstrate sustainability and make a significant, positive impact on their surroundings, the Awards shine a light on initiatives that enhance both environmental quality and community life.
Project categories & criteria
Projects should fall into one or more of the following categories:
- Well-considered buildings; new, restored or converted
- Innovative use of natural resources, including land and water
- Projects developed by or for the local community
- Projects responding to the challenge of climate change
All nominated projects are assessed against a defined set of criteria, and only those that meet the required standards are selected as recipients by a panel of judges. Click the button to read our full categories and criteria information:
Examples of projects
Examples of projects might be:
- a community shop, recreation facility, village hall or heritage project;
- buildings which fit their setting, are good examples of sustainable construction and efficient in the use of energy;
- a new nature reserve or habitat with public access;
- a community orchard, re-establishing old varieties of fruit;
- water management projects such as wetland creation, reedbed sewage treatment, or a sustainable drainage system;
- projects that encourage access to local countryside

Celebrating our 100th Award!
In 2024, our Awards scheme reached a very special milestone – our 100th CPRE Gloucestershire Award.
“This milestone reflects the dedication of all the projects and people involved over the years,” said Richard Lloyd MBE, Vice-Chair of CPRE Gloucestershire.

Our annual Awards Ceremony is generously hosted by Elmore Court, an outstanding Gloucestershire venue. We are delighted to hold the event in the Gillyflower, itself an Award recipient for its sustainable craftsmanship.
The estate is also home to Rewild Things, another Award-recognised project that restores biodiversity and offers guests sustainably crafted treehouse accommodation from which the rewilding can be enjoyed; making Elmore Court a proud double recipient.
