The North Cotswolds Clean-up – can you help?

3rd March 2021

Littering the countryside in the UK is a huge problem. Over the last 12 months this has increased because of the Covid-19 pandemic with more people working from home and enjoying their local area for recreation.

As well as being an eyesore litter can harm or kill wildlife. It can also enter our streams and rivers taking plastics and other harmful materials into our oceans.

Litter has been a particular problem in the North Cotswolds. The pictures above and below show what was collected recently from the verges and hedgerows in the North Cotswolds by two CPRE Gloucestershire members.

The North Cotswolds Clean-up

Today we are launching a campaign to get local residents involved in cleaning up the area.

We are working with Eden and their campaign to create pristine parishes to achieve this.

This will be part of a wider campaign to find solutions to stop the littering in the first place.

Can you help?

We are looking for residents of the North Cotswolds (including Bourton-on-the-Water, Chipping Campden, Guiting Power, Lower Slaughter, Moreton-in-Marsh, Stow on the Wold, Temple Guiting, and Upper Slaughter) to join our campaign and clear the litter from lanes, roads and hedgerows where you live.

We will provide you with a high-vis vest, a litter picker, gloves, and guidance on collecting and disposing of the litter.

If you can help please get in touch by emailing info@cpreglos.org.uk and we will send you more information.
