CPRE - Gloucestershire Branch - Green Belt Campaign

Gloucestershire's Green Belts have the potential to be developed greatly. But not in the way property developers might imagine........!

By 2026 the need for additional housing shows that some green field development may be necessary. To identify the land a Review of the Green Belt is likely to be held. CPRE Gloucestershire has prepared criteria for such a Review.

As designated open space around Gloucester and Cheltenham, the Green Belt plays a critical role in creating a high quality of life, for people in both these towns and the surroundings. They protect the open character of the countryside next to the towns and stop sprawl, thereby encouraging urban regeneration, especially in Gloucester. They are a place where we can explore the countryside next door and enjoy some peace and quiet: and they are a working countryside supplying food to local markets.

Our green Belt in Gloucestershire is vital in preventing the gradual coalescence of Cheltenham and Gloucester and in ensuring the focus is on urban renewal, particularly in Gloucester.
