CPRE - Gloucestershire Branch

CPRE Transport Issues

The County Council has produced a revised version of the LTP2, a document on which we have commented. Our comments related to the lack of provision for alternative travel. Funds for this have been switched to road maintenance. The final version of LTP2 is due out in November 2007.

The Dept of Transport has now asked the Highways Agency to produce plans for the A417 Nettleton Bottom/Crickley Hill problems. These plans are for traffic management options avoiding major earthworks, a solution CPRE supports. The tunnel option is now completly discounted.

The Dept of Transport has rejected the County's bid for a Parkway Station at Elmbridge as the business case was considered weak. The Elmbridge location is not considered sustainable and could result in train services at Cheltenham being reduced. We continue to campaign for a more sustainable solution including the case for no Parkway station or location elsewhere.
