CPRE - Gloucestershire Branch

CPRE Branch Anti-clutter Campaign

The excessive use of road signs (together with a plerotha of other street furniture) is threatening the character and local distinctiveness of our Gloucestershire countryside, its villages and market towns. To increase public awareness of the problem the Branch is running an Anti-clutter Campaign, concentrating on highway and tourist signs.

The response from members has been disappointing but some progress has been made. A meeting with the County Council resulted in the CPRE being represented on the Cotswolds AONB Conservation Working Group. They will, amongst other things, review signage to seek to rationalise and reduce it.
